Surroundings and places of interest near Giungano

The land around Giungano has the typical Mediterranean vegetation which distinguishes it as a particularly protected and uncontaminated spot.

The steep path from Giungano up to the village of Trentinara has recently been renovated (easy walk of about two hours, with a difference in height of 400 mt.) enabling visitors to enjoy the view from the most panoramic “terrace” of the whole of Cilento.
Silence and tranquillity have made this area a part of the “Parco Nazionale del Cilento and Vallo di Diano” recently inserted in the U.N.E.S.C.O. List of places chosen to be part of the world heritage.

The houses in Giungano are built in a semicircle on the slope of the mountain overlooking the Plain of Paestum, some of which are quite ancient, being built in the XVII century.
The panorama ranges from the Plain down to the sea in enchanting surroundings where the relationship man–nature remains harmonious and well-balanced.

From the touristic point of view the entire area is a real gathering together of archeological, historical and naturalistic sites.

The ruins of Paestum are only 10 km. away, Pompei 30 km., the Amalfi coast 50 km.
It is only 10 Km. to the coast of Cilento. The large sandy beach of Paestum, where there are comfortable bathing establishments, is easy to reach; so too is the most beautiful part of the Tyrrhenian coast, Punta Licosa, which is a protected marine park and easily accessible from the harbours close by of Agropoli, Castellabate, or Capo Palinuro with its mythical grottoes.
Cilento is famous for its gastronomy and even nowadays it is possible to taste typical dishes prepared as they were in the ancient past.
